Black Hills Deer Echo

Black Hills Deer Echo with Poetry by Christina Georgina Rossetti Photo by Dakota Visions Photography LLC www.dakotavisions.com

Echo

Come to me in the silence of the night;
Come in the speaking silence of a dream;
Come with soft rounded cheeks and eyes as bright
As sunlight on a stream;
Come back in tears,
O memory, hope, love of finished years.

O dream how sweet, too sweet, too bitter sweet,
Whose wakening should have been in Paradise,
Where souls brimfull of love abide and meet;
Where thirsting longing eyes
Watch the slow door
That opening, letting in, lets out no more.

Yet come to me in dreams, that I may live
My very life again though cold in death:
Come back to me in dreams, that I may give
Pulse for pulse, breath for breath:
Speak low, lean low
As long ago, my love, how long ago.

Christina Georgina Rossetti

Happy Easter from Dakota Visions Photography

Happy Easter and warmest wishes from the family at Dakota Visions Photography, LLC.  We hope your weekend is full of family, friends, and the memories of those you cherish.  We wish you peace and a spirit of renewal.

Happy Easter and warmest wishes from the Dakota Visions Photography family www.dakotavisions.com

We'd love to take credit for the 'chick' photograph, but we found it while researching the great, new stock photography site - Stocksy.  It's a cooperative run by its own photographers who get paid a relatively high percentage of the royalties generated by each image sale: 50%.  On top of that, photographers split the profits left over at the end of each year.  The idea is to attract top-shelf photographers who are unhappy with expanding photographer competition and shrinking payouts from the major sites.  If your job requires, as my day job does, to use stock photography - we highly recommend this site for its originality as well as its ethics.

And on this Easter weekend, may we leave you with a blessing...

May the Lord bless you and keep you.
May the Lord make his face to shine upon you,
and be gracious to you.
May the Lord lift up his countenance upon you,
and give you peace.

Thoughtful Thursday Quote: March 28, 2013

Of the many contradictions that exist in the world, the contrast between love and hate is perhaps the starkest.  And so it goes with the loving and hating of quotes...  Some people love them.  Some people hate them.

Well, as one of those famous quotable 80's songs goes:  (In your best Michael Jackson voice...)

'Paul, I think I told you, I'm a lover not a fighter...'

So, here comes our first Thoughtful Thursday Quote.  Hope ya'll like - and if you don't, well, 'we're not going to fight about this, okay?!'  Ha!

Scott Kelby and Sam Abell: Master Your Equipment

Funny, inspiration can come from just about anywhere - even Twitter.  OK - we admit it.  We are one of those photographers that loves to play with the newest gear, but we also have to admit - it's because we are obsessed with any new piece of technology, camera related or not.

A recent Tweet by Scott Kelby got us thinking about another quote that we like from Sam Abell - and well, that's why we wrote this piece.  Photography is about timing, learning your subjects, and learning your equipment.  Get to know your insert here (landscape, people, wildlife, flora, fauna...) as well as your gear.

Bottom line: Master what you own, whether it is a $4,599 DSLR setup or a $119 point and shoot.  Continue learning new techniques, stretch your horizons, and better yourself instead of always worrying about whether you have the newest piece of equipment.  Learn the movements and nuances of your subject - whatever that may be.  Your gear will follow your lead.  But it all comes down to being in the right place, at the right time, and knowing what to do with the gear you have on you at the time.

We hope you agree after your check out the quotes below:

Brooks Jensen Quote: Never forget...

As we were flipping through the latest photography magazines wondering how we could make our own photography better, this quote jumped out in front of me and slapped me alongside the head!
"Never forget that all the great photographs in history were made with more primitive camera equipment than you currently own." - Brooks Jensen

Practice, practice, and more practice.  That's the easiest way to get better.  We hope you enjoy.  Feel free to share or Pin with credit to Dakota Visions Photography, LLC.

Antelope - Untitled: It's not the words, but the photo...

What an originally un-catchy title, right?!  Well, for once, we are at a loss of words.  We've enjoyed this photo so much during the multiple times of processing through Adobe Photoshop and Nik Software, that we are actually stuck as to the story to tell with it.  So we are going to let this photo speak for itself.

Antelope - Untitled  It's not the words, it's the photo.  We hope you understand.  If you have something to say about this young antelope in Custer State Park just coming out of winter in the Black Hills, we'd like to hear it in the comments below, and who knows - we might pick your title or caption.

We didn't wait to post to Dakota Visions on this one, so feel free to purchase this one right now.
